Bramble: The Mountain King

A sublime visitation into the dark and grisly heart of Nordic folklore. The impeccable art direction, especially of the camera, will envelope and immerse you in a cohesive, chilling, and sometimes charming fantasy world. There's no plot per se, instead fragments of storytelling are woven into surreal environments and scenes.

Unfortunately, like many artistic indie games, the gameplay is awful. For the most part Bramble is a walking sim, and I wish it had just stuck to that. Instead, we get some frustrating attempts at stealth sequences, puzzles, and even boss fights. They all involve random death and tiresome repetition, pointless and annoying obstacles to enjoying this otherwise lovely title.

If you can handle that, you are in for a beautiful little treat.
