Corpse of Discovery
A beautiful, atmospheric, at times tedious exploration game, with a deep story that will require some thought to untangle, but that can also just be plainly experienced as an evocative, suggestive mystery.
This is not at all a "walking simulator," as some reviewers wrongly suggest, but a 3D platformer. Traversing the "levels" involves jumping and gliding through and around obstacles, and at times avoiding dangers. The difficulty increases: indeed, the final levels are not trivial at all. There are also a few simple environmental puzzles, in which it's not immediately obvious how to get to where you're supposed to go. For the most part it's soothing exploration of beautiful terrain. Unfortunately, the levels are procedurally generated and the challenges frustratingly repetitive.
I think the game is ultimately very rewarding in terms of story and concept, and well worth playing to the end, but I can understand how some people would find the repetitive 3D platforming to be boring. I give the game a thumbs up, but would also recommend that the devs invest in careful level design and pacing in their future games. It's a shame seeing such a great concept being muddied by mediocre gameplay.
After playing the game, you can read my theory about the story here. I would love to hear your comments!
