Hidden Through Time 2: Myths and Magic
I somewhat enjoyed the first game in the series, but this sequel delivers nothing significantly new or good. Especially because the first game (as well as this one) allows for online puzzles created by others, there doesn't seem to be a good reason to buy this one.
That's not to say that Hidden Through Time 2 doesn't try to innovate. It adds some more settings. As with the first game, they are not really about traveling through history, just cobbled-together, silly clichés. Forget about education or actual history. It also adds voice introductions to puzzles, but they add nothing interesting.
But what really made me give this game a thumbs down is the quality of the puzzles themselves. They are just not very satisfying. They are also so different that they seem to have been designed by different people. Many of them are made unnecessarily difficult by hiding the already-tiny objects behind other objects. You end up reverting to pixel hunting, e.g. trying to find the 3 pixels constituting the leafy bit of a garlic bulb which is hiding behind a bucket. It's OK to do this once or twice for variety, but this trick is repeated again and again. On the other hand, you have puzzles with just a few items that are far too easy to find.
In conclusion, if you enjoyed the first game, it's fine to leave it at that and maybe try some of the user-created online puzzles there. This sequel is unnecessary.
