Mulaka
Though controls are clunky and detail is quite thin, this is a nice medium-length action adventure.
Most combat is boring and annoying, but the boss fights are interesting and quite fun, easily the strongest point in the game. Unfortunately poor controls mean a lot of frustration as you often can't get Mulaka to do what you want him to do. There is also quite a bit of platforming—fortunately the poor controls are not quite as frustrating here. It's mostly just weird because the world boundaries are rather porous.
The game world is large enough that exploration is rewarding, and indeed there are collectibles, secrets, and power-ups to find. Unfortunately around mid-game I had already collected the maximum power-ups, making subsequent discoveries feel flat.
People are praising the story, and indeed it's wonderful to have a game set in the worldview of the Tarahumara (a.k.a. Rarámuri) native people of Mexico. Unfortunately this background is skin-deep. There are barely any meaningful interactions with characters and the "story" is barebones and cliché.
You'll notice too many uses of the world "unfortunately" in this review. And that's really the problem: lots of unrealized potential. However, if you keep your expectations in check you'll have a nice little adventure.
I hope the developers have time and money in the future to create more fleshed-out game!
