OPUS: Rocket of Whispers

I enjoyed OPUS: The Day We Found Earth, but this game doesn't work for me.

For one, it tries far too hard with the story. Within the first five minutes you get the entirety of what you need to know, but the game keeps banging you on the head with it again and again. There is no development: not in the 2-dimensional exaggerated characters and not in the plot. To top it off, the pseudo-religious message is insultingly simplistic.

The gameplay is likewise tedious. It's more sophisticated than that of The Day We Found Earth, but it's also unsatisfying. You explore a map and find items, but there's no real adventure or delight in discovery. All items end up just being items to find. To add insult to injury, for some annoying reason you're given only a short amount of time to explore the world before being sent back to the beginning. This very quickly becomes frustrating.

With this game the devs tried too hard to be profound, but ended up being pretentious instead.
