Revenge of the Savage Planet
Sometimes sequels can break new ground, expanding on the original concepts or reimagining them in new directions. This is not such a sequel. Don't be fooled by their new company name, as the devs decided to mostly play it safe. It's essentially the same gameplay but with lots of new content. But that does mean that if you loved Journey to the Savage Planet then you'll probably love Revenge, too.
Well, I say "essentially" but there's a seemingly big change: we've moved from 1st-person to 3rd-person. I welcome this as the clunky controls were my main complaint about Journey. It's now much more enjoyable to move through the worlds (yes, plural!), while keeping all the other themes intact. There are also some quality-of-life improvements, for example it's now possible to pause the game. That's right, Journey was missing this rather important feature.
It is such a joy to be back in this universe. Once again we get a huge playground packed with environmental puzzles, traversal challenges, metroidvania-style locks, and many collectibles. So many. There is also an attempt at a "base building" system, but it's too simplistic to be fun. It is, however, very funny, as is so much of the game.
So, what are you waiting for? These space corporations are too incompetent to clean up their messes by themselves. It's time to don your bunny suit, crash land, study the flora, and kill a bunch of adorable fauna. Welcome to Revenge.
I gave it a on Steam. Respond to this review there.
