What Remains of Edith Finch

A richly beautiful and melancholic storytelling experience, with many creative and enjoyable gameplay sequences that push the boundaries of the "walking simulator" genre. Whether you're just standing in one place and watching the view while listening to the wind, or carefully rummaging through the intricacies of jumbled objects, there is here much in which to find delight.

The game's setting is itself a character, full of surprising twists and secrets that gradually reveal themselves to you. It's gorgeously designed and rendered, with superb attention to textures, lighting, animations, and even sound. The writing is solid, as is the scene direction and voice acting.

Though some reviewers have found the overall story lacking in some way, this reviewer found it entirely satisfying. The game humbly does not provide you with an "answer" or a "message"—though there are scattered suggestions—but instead paints an image for you to contemplate.

Highly recommended to fans of the genre.
